I started my life long career as a bus driver with
Cincinnati Street Railway back in the 70’s. Transit was tough then, giving
change, no power steering, 2 minute headways etc.
After my being laid off in
Cincinnati
, I moved to
Georgia
. Atlanta Transit was hiring and I had a
new city
to learn. Most buses had no A/C and they were smaller. After a couple of years,
I took the opportunity to hit the open road with Continental Trailways. Lots of
adventure and more responsibility for 5 years. Trailways was bought out in the
late 80’s and the job that I loved was gone.
Back to Atlanta Transit which was now MARTA. I started driving charters on
the weekend for Arnel tours and before long I was hooked again to the open road.
They were eventually bought out by Adventure Lines. I started pulling lots of
Broadway show work out of NYC so I moved there – to the
Bronx
.
In the summer when the shows didn’t go on the road, I started working
for
NYC
Parks
and Recreation. I was promoted to drive their tactical command bus. I started
driving charters on the weekend – Japanese & Chinese Tourist. My heart
wanted to move back to a warmer climate and a friendly atmosphere.
I started with CapMetro in
Austin
,
TX
in 1995, was promoted to supervisor in 8 months. My director was fired and then
the superintendent was fired – I ran back to being a driver. I was picked up
in training and promoted up to Technical Trainer. In 1998, due to the political
climate – 20 of us were laid off for budget cuts.
Back on the road again, this time – Entertainment Buses – Star
coaches. I started with the 40 foot old model 10 Eagles then moved up to the
45’ Eagles with a trailer. I learned most all the venues in the USA. Spending
lots of time in New York and California.
In the last 7 years I think I have visited every big
town in the USA 10 times. I know most venues, auditoriums and concert hall.
I am well know ledged in generators, satellite systems,
central and roof air, entertainment systems, bus starting systems and I know
most repair shops around the country - the good ones and the bad.......
.........see you at the local venue or the Flying
J.................
Thank you,
