After working for the New York City Parks Department for several summer seasons as a pool supervisor & driving tour buses in the winter. I was offered a permanent job working for the Parks Enforcement Division in the Communications Section. I decided to resign from Adventure Lines and work for NYC Parks full-time. My job was to drive the Tactical Enforcement Bus and work in Communications Radio. This bus was special - it had 12 wireless telephone stations back when cell phones were almost non-existent. I drove this bus to riots, large fires, special events, parades etc. On the weekends, I took a job with a Japanese Tour bus company - Royal Lines. We specialized in people from Asia - took them on tours of New York City, Atlantic City, Niagara Falls and shopping trips. The Setra buses were new and beautiful, they were also distant cousins of the Eagles that I had driven in the past. After 8 years in the Bronx - the weather, the taxes & the big city living were taking a toll on me and I wanted to move to a warmer climate. I traveled around the country and found Austin, TX. A city of hills and close to Mexico. I took a voluntary layoff from NYC Parks with severance pay and moved south.
